Eph 4:25-32 Chiastic structure
But embodying the truth in word, in deed, in love, we may grow up in all things into Him who is the head, Messiah. Eph 4:15
To embody truth is a single verb in Greek, Strong’s G226, ἀληθεύω alētheúō, “to be true.” Tracking back through the Septuagint, we find its Hebrew equivalent from Strong’s H539 אמן aman, “to support, to stand firm.” The ancient pictographs are aleph + mem + nun.
aleph א = ox head (strength, power, leader)
mem מ, ם = water (chaos, mighty, blood)
nun נ, ן = seed (continue, heir, son)
According to the Ancient Hebrew Lexicon, ancient people used to put animal hides in a pot of boiling water, and skim off the thick substance that formed at the surface. This strong (aleph) water (mem) was used as glue (and is still the basis of glue production today). In fact the concrete noun related to the verbal root is “glue.” The Hebrew Root Word parable is of the bond (aleph + mem) that continues (nun), that is, those ideas or truths that stick or remain over time. It is enduring truth, foundational truth, absolute truth.
The Greek grammar literally reads, “truthing in love,” so speaking truth, yet far more than what comes out of the mouth. “Truthing” is to embody truth in all aspects of life: what we say, what we do, how we conduct our affairs, and the way in which we walk. We do truth in love, that is, in Agape Love, Strong’s G26 — strong love, sacrificial love, love exercised by the will without recourse to emotion.
