Genesis 29:31-30:24, Jacob’s Children
Additional studies: Genesis Index
How good YHVH is, to not leave Leah in an untenable situation, but gave her children to compensate her. Leah had her children’s love, and Rachel had Jacob’s love. Both women were unhappy even so, because of what they didn’t have, and what they lacked is where they kept their focus. But Leah underwent a change. Her first three sons were named because her focus was that she did not have her husband’s love, but was trying to earn it. But when Judah was born, she did not name him because of what she lacked. She simply said, “This time I will praise YHVH (Judah means ‘praise’). She shifted her focus from herself to YHVH, and gave Him praise because He was worthy of it, regardless of what she had or did not have. She had learned the secret to godliness with contentment. ♥
Psalm 36, The foothold of pride

Flattery is smooth speech that doesn’t ruffle any feathers or create waves. But the fact is that we humans will always need correcting in something or another.
For the commandment is a lamp, and the Law a light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life. Pro 6:23
God’s righteous judgments do ruffle feathers and do create waves. But they are a great deep of wisdom; they are a fountain of life and light. By them, He preserves us; by them, He gathers us for refuge under the shadow of His wings. When we only listen to that which flatters, then we are giving pride a foothold. The only One we should be exalting on high, is YHVH.
Matthew 26, The cup of the new covenant
Additional studies: Matthew Index
We learn in Gal 3:15-18 that a covenant previously ratified by God, cannot be annulled by a later covenant. The Mosaic did not annul the Abrahamic; the Davidic did not annul the Mosaic, and the New, likewise, did not annul any of the previous covenants. Instead, each one builds on the last. The Abrahamic created a people of God; the Mosaic provided a Law to govern that people; the Davidic provided the ruling dynasty for that people, through which Messiah would come. The New likewise did not annul the Old, which is why Jesus said that He did not come to abolish the Law (Mat 5:17-19). So what is new about the New Covenant? It’s not the content of the Law, but the place upon which the Law is engraved that is new. Now the Law is written on the tablets of the heart inside the man, rather than only on tablets of stone outside the man. It provides the new heart, the new nature, and the new birth.
