Essential Studies.
Exodus 17:8-16, Yehovah Nissi, Yehovah my Banner
Additional studies: Exodus Index
Strong’s says nissi means, “to gleam from afar,” to be conspicuous as a signal. So the rod that Moses held aloft while the battle raged inspired the name, Yehovah Nissi, God who is lifted up high over us, who signals to near and far that we are not defeated. Nissi is all tied in to the idea of tribal and national flags; to beacon fires serving as a signal to those ‘afar,’ and to lighthouses which gleam from afar and so protect those who are sailing in by guiding them toward safe harbor. This gives a whole new meaning to the worship we sing, “Lift Him up, lift up His name on high!” When we lift up His glorious name, we are raising over us the banner of Yehovah, and our enemies can not prevail over us, but we prevail over them!
Psalm 55, Evening, morning, and noon meditation

Meditating, biblically defined, is not the same as the New Age practice. To meditate is to mull over, often aloud to yourself, but also, dwelling on a thing with God in the conversation, so some versions translate this word as “pray,” however, that shortchanges this word’s meaning. The idea is that meditation, “throwing your thoughts outside,” results in murmuring, which can sometimes be an expressed disquietude of the heart or mind, but is often a positive, contented, or peaceful humming.
Romans 10, Faith comes by hearing
Additional studies: Romans Index
Anyone struggling with doubts and distrust needs more Word of God, not less. The Word is God is living and active; a living seed which, when planted, grows and produces fruit. And one of its fruits, is faith, trust, and belief. We plant it in the heart (Mar 4:13-20), and the best way to plant it there is, yes, read it, but just as importantly, hear it. The seed of the Word enters the heart through the agency of the eyes and ears. Read it (eyes) out loud (ears) for best results.
