Today’s Old Testament chronological reading is in Genesis 9 and 10.
The Psalms/ Proverbs reading is in Psalm 5.
No New Testament reading today.
The central axis of the Gen 10:1-32 chiastic structure is about Nimrod, “the mighty one in the earth.” The name Nimrod means, from Hebrew, “rebel.” We saw in Gen 6 that before the flood, the Nephilim were the mighty ones in the earth, the men of renown. Nephilim is from the primitive root meaning, “to fall.” We find these same words, the exact same, repeated in Psalm 5, concerning the boastful workers of iniquity:
Hold them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own counsels; {n} Cast them down in the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against You. Psa 5:10
Hebrew root words.
Blessing and cursing from today’s Genesis reading, and righteousness and wickedness from today’s Psalm reading, illustrate the teaching tool of comparison and contrast. They are opposite sides of the same coin.
Barak, “to bless,” Strong’s H1288
Arar, “to curse,” Strong’s H779
Tsedaqah, “righteousness,” Strong’s H6666
Resha, “wickedness,” Strong’s H7562
