The scribes were Levites who copied the Torah scrolls, following a strict set of standards to ensure no mistake was made in even a jot or tittle (the smallest marks of the Hebrew letters). They were also teachers of the Law and wrote commentaries on the meaning of the Torah and its observance. YHVH charges them with a lying pen. Their pen did not lie in their scroll copying (Yeshua affirms the accuracy of the Law in Mat 5:18), but in their commentary. They taught the people that the Temple in Jerusalem as the place of God’s presence upon the ark of the covenant, meant ‘Peace, peace’—no disaster could befall the holy city. Therefore, the people (and the rulers, priests, scribes, and prophets) were strengthened in their wrongdoing.
Why This Matters: God does not approve of wrongdoing, no matter what pin-headed theologians or “Bible experts” say. Don’t believe the word of man when it contradicts the word of God!
