Essential Studies.
Ezekiel 23 and 24, Reverse parallelism
Additional studies: Ezekiel Index
I admit that it’s a depressing reverse parallelism. But here is the good news: Jerusalem will cease her harlotry. And we know that YHVH accomplished that exact end, because after the return from captivity, YHVH’s people were so abhorrent of idolatry that they would rather die than participate in it. It inspired the successful revolt of the Maccabees, which we will be celebrating in Hanukkah in just a few weeks!
Psalm 132, Chiastic Structure
Additional studies: Psalms, Book Five: Psalms 107-150 Index
I have a theory about the identity of the third temple, the dwelling place of YHVH in the Messianic age. For since the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, God has dwelt within His people by His Spirit. We are His temple made without hands, joined together as living stones (1 Pet 2:5). Those who are His, are the royal priesthood and the holy nation (1 Pet 2:9). And of that priesthood, David proclaims prophetically, that they are clothed with salvation, and just as equally, righteousness (B pair). The new nature of those who are saved, is the root which produces the fruit of righteousness. Beloved, do not fear to walk in obedience to YHVH or according to His righteous standards, for this is the outward sign of your inward transformation!
1 Peter 4, Chiastic Structure
Additional studies: 1 & 2 Peter Index
The central axis of the structure is that love covers a multitude of sins. That axis is wrapped with fervent love one for another, and having the open door of hospitality for each other; love in action. Love then is wrapped with intercession and prophecy, two gifts of the Spirit which are two sides of the same coin. Then the outer shell is the reviling of the world upon us, and whatever suffering that may cause in this life. But all in hope, for their reproach does not change our covenant status as the household of God. ♥
