Noah’s Flood is a real historic event, and prophesies that sin does not go unpunished, it carries the wage of death, and God will judge it. He does not turn a blind eye forever. Today, every person who visits a natural history museum and sees the many fossils on display which were all laid down by water and buried in massive sedimentary layers to prevent their decay, found on every continent, even on mountaintops, is witnessing a silent testimony that speaks louder than words. The fossils cry out that the wages of sin is death, God judges sin, and will not turn a blind eye forever; therefore repent now!
The book of Habakkuk Chiastic structure
Instead of losing faith in God or His promises, Habakkuk laid out his complaint before YHVH without recriminating Him, and waited for Him to correct his perception, to show him where he was seeing a lie. YHVH’s answer was to wait for the accomplishment of His Word, because it will come to pass, so the righteous live by faith in Him (Hab 2:4, the central axis). We have not seen the end of everything God has promised—yet. In fact all the patriarchs died without seeing the accomplishment of God’s promises (Heb 11:13, 11:39-40). And what is the end of all God’s promises to us?
“For the earth will be filled
With the knowledge of the glory of YHVH,
As the waters cover the sea.” Hab 2:14

I believe the psalmist truly despaired of life because of the gravity and precariousness of his trials. But as he meditated on the steadfastness of the Lord as an anchor of help and hope when He is called upon by His servants, he realized that even if he were to die, it would not diminish the Lord’s help, because then he would be free from his bonds – his trials, whatever they were, would be over for him forever (2B pair). But then, as the Lord brought about his deliverance and his salvation, he realized that he had believed things were far worse than they really were (1B pair). Isn’t that usually the way of it! ♥
