one torah for the one people of the one God, part two 2015 feb 10
We have seen that many who might be descended from the ten dispersed tribes of Israel are intermingled among the Gentiles to the four corners of the earth. Torah applies to them as children of the covenant. We have seen that even for those Gentiles with no Israelite roots, they are to hear and observe all the words of this law. But isn’t that for the Old Testament? What about the disciples of Jesus?
“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Mat 5:17-19
Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” Mat 7:12
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” Mat 7:21-23
“If you love Me, keep My commandments.” Joh 14:15
“He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” Joh 14:21
Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” Act 17:30-31 (Paul preaching to Gentiles of Athens)
Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law. Rom 3:31 (Paul to Gentile Romans)
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! Rom 6:15
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Cor 6:9-10 (Paul to Gentile Corinthians (Greeks))
Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but keeping the commandments of God is what matters. 1 Cor 7:19
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim 3:16-17 (Paul to Timothy, a Greek)
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. Jam 1:22-25
Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. 1 Joh 2:3-6
Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. 1 Joh 3:4
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. 1 Joh 5:3
“Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.” Rev 22:14
It sounds to me like keeping commandments is for the disciples of Jesus also, whether Jew or Greek; of Israelite roots, or of the Gentiles … the difference being, the disciples of Jesus do not allow that their commandment- keeping is what saves them, for salvation is found no where else but in the grace of God, through faith in the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on the cross (that righteousness is of faith).
But that is not all …
