2 Kin 18:17-19:37 Chiastic structure:
2 Kings 18:18-19:14 Chiasm (YHVH’s word of deliverance).
2 Kings 19:15-19 Chiasm (Hezekiah’s Prayer).
We have read of many instances where Judah was defeated by her enemies when she had forsaken YHVH.
Rehoboam, son of Solomon, by Shishak, pharaoh of Egypt (1 Kin 4:25-26);
Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat, by a coalition of Arabians and Philistines (2 Kin 8:20-22);
Amaziah, son of Joash, by the northern kingdom of Israel (2 Kin 14:7-14);
Ahaz, son of Jotham, by Arameans (Syrians), the northern kingdom of Israel, Edomites, and Philistines (2 Kin 16:5-9).
And yet the one time her defeat seemed assured at the hands of the premier military of the age, the Assyrians, she was miraculously delivered, because she placed her trust in YHVH her God.
