Read Psalm 63 at Bible Gateway.
The Hebrew paragraph divisions:
1a O God, You are my God; Earnestly will I seek You; {n}
1b My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You {n}
1c In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.
2 So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory.
3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips shall praise You.
4 Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.
5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.
6 When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.
7 Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.
8 My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.
9 But those who seek my life, to destroy it, Shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
10 They shall fall by the sword; They shall be a portion for jackals.
11a But the king shall rejoice in God; {n}
11b Everyone who swears by Him shall glory; But the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped. {p}
I am not wise enough to uncover the structure of the entire psalm. The bookends seem to be speaking of the king’s search for God, contrasted with the wicked’s search for the king’s life. I believe the central portion is as follows:
1a) Psa 63:4, Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name;
1b) Psa 63:5a, My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness;
1c) Psa 63:5b, And my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips;
central axis) Psa 63:6-7a, I remember You + meditate on You on my bed: You have been my help;
2c) Psa 63:7b, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice;
2b) Psa 63:8a, My soul follows close behind You;
2a) Psa 63:8b, Your right hand upholds me.
The king lifts up his hands to bless the Lord in worship, and the Lord lifts up His right hand to uphold him (A pair). The soul of the king shall be satisfied in His search for the Lord, as his soul follows close behind Him (B pair). The king praises God with joy, and rejoices in Him under the shadow of His wings (C pair, and see Psa 91:1). He meditates on God during the night, and what he remembers about Him, what he recounts to himself, is all the ways God has been his help in the past, therefore he takes joy and has confidence in God’s help for his present situation also (central axis). ♥
