Essential Studies.
Isaiah 14, Natural and spiritual kings
Additional studies: Isaiah Index
Scripture is teaching us that there are kings in the spiritual world who correspond to kings in the natural world, ruling over the kingdoms of this world. Natural kings are men, who live and die; spiritual kings are great princes who are from of old, and with whom are at war. The Greek Testament calls them, principalities and rulers of darkness, spiritual wickedness in heavenly places (Eph 6:12). The spiritual king corresponding to the kingdoms of this world, embodied by Mystery Babylon the Great and its worldview and ideology (Rev 17:3-5), is Lucifer the Shining One. He is opposed to the kingdom of our Lord and of His Messiah (the kingdom of heaven, Rev 11:15, see also Psa 2:2). But soon the King of kings and Lord of lords will come, and the war will end, He being victorious over His enemies. And the whole earth will be at rest and quiet (Isa 14:7)!
Psalm 64, Hebrew root words
Additional studies: Psalms, Book Two: Psalms 42-72 Index
Poisonous words can be counteracted. First, never speak one yourself! When you are discouraged, the enemy feeds that discouragement with his poisoned words. “I’m a failure,” “I can’t do this,” etc. – all of which are shown to be lies by the promises in God’s word–the wholesome words which counteract the venom!
Second, when you hear a poisonous word, quench it in the shield of faith, that is, in our belief in the wholesome words of God. We take the poisonous words captive–arrest that thought in your mind–and make it obey Christ (2 Cor 10:4-5), make it bow its knee to the truth of God’s wholesome words. We do this by speaking His wholesome words after Him!
“Father, I reject that thought that I am a failure. You said in Messiah I can do all things. I believe Your true word!”
Philippians 2, Working out our own salvation
Additional studies: Philippians Index
We work out our salvation, that is, we enter the kingdom by faith (Eph 2:8-10) yet the root of faith always produces the fruit of faith as evidence of its existence. The fruit–“our works”–are then wrought in us through God’s agency and not our own. He is working in us so that 1) it becomes our own will to do what pleases Him, and 2) we have the ability to produce the fruit that pleases Him. He gives us both the will and the wherewithal to do. ♥
