Supersessionism, also known as replacement theology, is the belief that the Church has replaced Israel as God’s chosen people, superseding the covenant YHVH made with Israel in the Hebrew Bible. It suggests that the New Covenant through Jesus Christ renders the Old Covenant with Israel obsolete, transferring God’s promises originally made to Israel, to the Church, while viewing Jews as rejected or no longer central to God’s plan. But the errors of this theology are easily dismantled by acknowledging a few simple facts. 1) Truth does not contradict itself. Psa 94:14, Isa 54:7-8, Jer 31:35-37 contradict a permanent rejection of Israel. Therefore 2) Israel’s temporary abandonment serves a purpose in God’s plan of salvation for the whole world, in which they are included (Rom 11:1-2, 11-12, 15).

David’s enemies 1) SEEK after his soul; 2) they DELIGHT in any harm coming to him; 3) they SAY, “Aha! Aha!” – the gotcha equivalent. David’s prayer is that they are 4) ASHAMED and ABASHED when their desires are thwarted. But what YHVH’s people do in the face of the evil desires of the wicked: 1) they SEEK Him; 2) they LOVE His salvation as opposed to delighting in harm coming to anyone; 3) they SAY, “Let God be magnified.” David’s prayer is that they 4) REJOICE and are GLAD regardless of circumstances, because God is with them is implied.

In the spiritual sense, before we came to Messiah, we were executed on the execution stake already—we were dead—because of our transgressions against Torah, since the wages of sin, which is breaking Torah, is death. That is the state that Messiah found us in. But He then canceled out our certificate of debt, our list of our sins that was hostile to us. This indictment, this guilty verdict was the decree against us which He took out the way, and nailed it itself to His cross.
