My goal was to prepare meals that my family would eat and love, while still staying on the detox diet.
Use organic meat and dairy throughout the detox. Use homemade salad dressings made with olive oil or homemade olive oil mayonnaise. Know the dirty dozen in produce and buy them organically grown.
To sub stevia for sugar: sugar to sweetleaf stevia conversion chart. I use sweetleaf stevia exclusively, and for my own preference, sub less stevia than they call for. They call for 12 pkts to sub for 1/2 c sugar; I use 8. I reduce the amount by one third. I also reduce the amount of baseline sugar a recipe calls for, by half. My formula: recipe /2, apply stevia conversion /two thirds.
day one
Spaghetti with italian meatsauce, made with homemade italian sausage from ground chicken or turkey. The family can have regular spaghetti noodles, the detoxee (LOL) can have brown rice or quinoa pasta, which makes perfectly acceptable pasta for the detox diet. But if doing this detox when zucchini is in season, try slicing a zucchini thin, and then again into strips, and sauteing lightly to use in place of pasta. I love zucchini noodles! Roast 1 head of garlic and mash into a stick of butter. Reserve 1 T. The rest of the garlic butter can go on garlic bread for the family, but the reserved garlic butter is tossed with the gluten- free pasta. No garlic bread for the detoxee, but you won’t miss it with all the other yummy food. Add a salad made with dark leafy greens and homemade salad dressing.
Check off protein, sulfer rich, dark leafy greens, and omega 3 rich fat.
day two
Roast chicken rubbed with homemade Emeril’s essense or other sugar- and chemical- free spice rub. Or try this moroccan spice rub (without the sugar) for a little middle eastern vibe. Serve with lentils and rice, greeen beans or baby peas, or whatever green vegetable is in season that your children like, or, if you have been having salad and green smoothies all day, roasted sweet potatoes.
Check off protein and sulfer rich.
day three
White chicken enchiladas, (use leftover roast chicken from day two), just warm and do not fry the corn tortillas, and use brown rice flour in the roux instead of wheat flour, Elise’s spanish rice made with brown rice. Serve with guacamole and restaurant- style salsa. Add a green salad made with dark leafy greens and broccoli sprouts (with additional veggies).
Check off protein, dark leafy greens, crucifer, and omega 3 rich fat.
day four
Baked stuffed flounder with these changes: brown rice instead of white rice, and I spread my creamed spinach mixture on top of the rice, and then put the fish on top of that, and then cover with the sauce, rather than trying to roll the fish around the spinach. Saves me time and frustration! The alcohol content of the wine in the sauce cooks out, so it is okay to use. Serve with roasted fennel (which is sulfer rich) and/ or roasted asparagus, and garlic bread or dinner rolls (not for the detoxee).
Check off protein, dark leafy greens, liver healing, sulfer rich, and omega 3 rich fat.
day five
Glazed meatloaf, made gluten- free (follow directions in recipe), and cutting sugars called for in the glaze in half, then subbing with stevia. Baked potatoes with organic butter and sour cream. Roasted asparagus. Salad made with dark leafy greens and broccoli slaw, and homemade salad dressing.
Check off protein, dark leafy greens, crucifer, liver healer, and omega 3 rich fat.
day six
Make your own tacos, burritoes, or nachoes night, using taco beef, refried black beans, cilantro lime rice, guacamole, restaurant- style salsa, and organic cheese and sour cream. The detoxee can make a Chipotle- style naked burrito bowl, and layer rice, beans, beef, and toppings in a pasta bowl and put under the broiler for a few seconds until the cheese melts.
Check off protein, sulfer rich, and omega 3 rich fat.
day seven
This is a prepare ahead meal appropriate for Sabbaths or Feast Days. Perfect pot roast. Roasted garlic mashed potatoes. Roast carrots from the pot roast. Roasted broccoli (I prepare my broccoli ahead of time up to the roasting stage, and keep the ziploc bag with the herbed olive oil, garlic, and broccoli in the refrigerator, and then pour it out on a baking sheet and place it in the oven with the pot roast the appropriate amount of time before dinner).
Check off protein, crucifer, and sulfer rich.
