when tragedy strikes
why suffering?
the suffering of fools
temptations, tests, and trials
why does God test man, part one
testing and the education of life
what my cat taught me about testing, and trusting
why does God test man, part two
we are the clay
judging suffering
My next post after judging suffering was going to be about our response when we go through suffering, and the Lord’s comfort which is available for us. But I ended up responding to the heart cries of our hurting sisters left in the comments instead. What followed was a mini-series on hearts wounded by the hurt of suffering, and what happens to us if we harden our hearts when we go
through suffering.
I didn’t realize this at the time, but it turns out that series of posts was about our response to suffering after all:
help when we hurt
flip the switch
the poetry of drawing near
hearts wounded by suffering
what my thimble taught me
pride: the hidden problem with hardness
portrait of a yielded heart
the poetry of a yielded heart
The Lord has comfort for us when we suffer, but also a warning: not to harden our hearts, as hardness is deceitful, disguising the sin of pride, rebellion, and unbelief.
Dears, if any of us have been deceived by hardness, we can return: confess our sin, repent of our sin, ask for the Lord’s forgiveness which is freely available to all, and be restored to the heart of our loving Father.

taking comfort: psalm 42
