2 Samuel 7:1-17 Chiastic Structure:
To build is in Hebrew Strong’s H1129 בנה banah, a primitive verb meaning, “to build, to erect” (as a house or temple). The ancient pictographs are bet + nun + hey:
bet ב = the house, thus house, household, family, in, within
nun נ , ן = the seed, thus continue, heir, son
hey ה = the man w/ upraised arms, thus look, reveal, wonder, worship, breath
During the era of the patriarchs, the women of the family made a new tent panel every year, which would be attached to the existing structure, replacing an older, worn tent panel. Thus over the course of several years the entire tent was renewed. So the Hebrew Root Word parable: this action of building the tent is described as the house (bet) continues (nun) to breathe (to live, hey). In the same way that the physical structure of the house continues by the addition of new tent panels, the biological household or family is renewed by the addition of sons.
David wanted to build a house for YHVH, but YHVH used this oppostunity to prophesy to David that He, in fact, will build David’s house, his sons and progeny. And that it would be his son who would build the house for YHVH’s name. David’s son Solomon did in fact build the Temple of YHVH in Jerusalem, but it is David’s Son Messiah Yeshua who is building the eternal house for YHVH’s name out of living stones – you and me! We are the dwelling place of the Spirit of YHVH in these days!
