In Hosea, it is the idols, the tools of idolatry, that cry out for the mountains to fall on them; in Revelation it is the idolaters who make the same cry. For the kings and men of the earth, in Revelation, are those whose citizenship is with the world instead of in the kingdom of heaven. In my understanding of Revelation, Rev 6:15-17 happened at the fall of paganism from 312 to 361 ad under the ascendancy and rule of Constantine the Great (Julian the Apostate not being able to restore it). The prophecies are saying to me, that when the time comes for idolatry to be banished forever, not only the idolaters, but the idols themselves will see their utter foolishness and cry out to be so far buried, that it will never be seen again.

How does a person transition from bringing a constant string of sacrifices because the heart is unchanged (1C), to righteousness, steadfast love, and truth because the heart is changed (2C)? The central axis reveals it. Messiah Yeshua came as it was written of Him in the scroll of the book (Luk 24:46-47). He became the sacrifice for sin, opening the door for our heart transplant from a heart of stone, which can only bring a constant string of sacrifices (1C), to a heart of flesh, walking out righteousness, steadfast love, and truth (2C).

Acts is establishing the pattern that when the word of God is preached, two things happen: one, as many as had been appointed to eternal life believe, and two, the word is always opposed by those who do not believe. It is that very opposition that caused the gospel to the spread abroad, for normally people don’t like to move about if they can help it. It is human nature to remain in your comfort zone. But every time persecution rose up, and the people moved away to escape it, the gospel moved with them and penetrated into new regions. If you are experiencing opposition or persecution because of the word of God, it just means you are fulfilling your calling as a witness. If the one is happening, you can be reassured that the other–the seed of the word planted in hearts to grow to belief–is happening as well! ♥
