Essential Studies.
Joel 1 through 3, Chiastic structure
Additional studies: Joel 1 through 3, Historical background
The second half of the structure lay outs the restoration of His people, as the front half laid out their devastation. At the time of the restoration, the abundance of the land will return, His people will return, and no more shall any armies put them to shame. Tyre, Sidon, and the coasts of Philistia (not the people of Philistia, interesting) are called out for their oppression, as well as Egypt and Edom.
Tyre and Sidon were in ancient Phoenicia, today’s Lebanon, controlled by Hezbollah. The coasts of Philistia is the land today controlled by Hamas, where Gaza is. Lebanon is on the north side of Israel. The coasts of the Philistines are on her west; Epgyt is on her southern border, and Edom is on her eastern border.
It is as if YHVH is saying, that even though your enemies surround you, O Israel, north, south, east, and west, I will establish you forever, and devastate those who have devastated you.
Psalm 43, Hope in the midst of trials
Additional studies: Psalms, Book Two: Psalms 42-72 Index
If the question of being cut off causes you anxiety, then rest your heart, you have not met the threshold. Those whose conscience troubles them, the Holy Spirit is working to convict of sin and righteousness (Joh 16:8), not those who shake their fist at God and dare Him to strike them with lightning.
2 Corinthians 12, My grace is sufficient
Additional studies: 1 & 2 Corinthians Index
God hedged Paul in by his thorn, whatever it was, to protect him from going outside the boundary of humility and be ensnared by pride. God knew to do this for Paul, because God knew his going out and coming in – He knew his strengths and weaknesses, and what strategies the enemy would employ to try to cause his downfall. God winnowed certain things out of Paul’s path, and left certain things in Paul’s path.
