Essential Studies.
2 Chronicles 25 and 26, Chiastic structure
Additional studies: 1 & 2 Chronicles Index
Success and might lifted up the heart of the king, so that he turned from his beginning in doing right. The chiastic structure even seems to link pride with anger. Another repetition is refusal to listen to correction from God’s appointed authority. Proverbs tells us a fool refuses to listen to correction, and fools likewise are lifted up in pride or anger, while wise men walk in humility. What feeds wisdom to diminish pride? The fear of YHVH. What feeds the fear of YHVH? His word, especially His Law.
Psalm 50, Faithfulness, not forms
Additional studies: Psalms, Book Two: Psalms 42-72 Index
God is addressing the wicked among His own people (His people includes you and me)! True covenant status is not about family or forms, but faithfulness.
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. Gal 6:7-8
Galatians 4, Trust and obey
Additional studies: Galatians Index
Our obedience, now that we are heirs come fully into the inheritance, comes from the Spirit within our hearts. We want to obey, we are no longer compelled to obey by guardians (the Law written on tablets of stone) as if we were children.
