Hebrew paragraph divisions
Exo 12:37-42 {p} Israel ceased their sojourn in Egypt
Exo 12:43-50 {s} The ordinance of the Passover
Exo 12:51 {p} YHVH brought Israel out of Egypt
These paragraphs do not form a traditional strong theme, because there is the addition of a strong paragraph at the beginning of the series. But these three are together because, it turns out, this is the smallest grouping that allows Exo 12:51 to be part of a chiastic structure:
Exo 12:37-51 {p+s+p} Chiastic structure
Now what struck me about this structure is the unusual central axis. It seems like a minor point of instruction, so why is it the passage which God has surrounded with neon flashing lights out of this series?
I believe it is this:
I am poured out like water,
And all My bones are out of joint;
My heart is like wax;
It has melted within Me.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd,
And My tongue clings to My jaws;
You have brought Me to the dust of death.
For dogs have surrounded Me;
The congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me.
They pierced My hands and My feet;
I can count all My bones.
They look and stare at Me.
They divide My garments among them,
And for My clothing they cast lots. Psa 22:14-18
This passage in Psalms is clearly prophetic of Messiah Yeshua’s crucifixion. And it just so happens that His crucifixion is the event which fulfills the feast day of Passover. Moses is again writing about Messiah.
