Essential Studies.
Exodus 23 and 24, Grace in the midst of Law (Additional studies: Exodus Index)
Yeshua taught us in Mat 5:43-45 to love our enemies. But it is not a new concept, springing up for the first time in New Testament covenant of grace. The God of the Old Testament and Law put neon flashing lights around these two verses …
“If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying under its burden, and you would refrain from helping it, you shall surely help him with it.” Exo 23:4-5
… to teach us that the purpose of His charge, His commandments, His statutes, and His laws, is to show us what love looks like – because love has always been, now is, and ever will be, the fulfilling of the Law, the way of the unchanging God of love. ♥
Psalm 58, The righteous who repent and return (Additional studies: Psalms Book Two (42-72) Index)
But as the righteous open their ears, as they heed the call which has gone out to all Israel: HEAR, O Israel (Deu 6:4), a heart transplant occurs, by the power of the Holy Spirit. God exchanges our heart of stone for a heart of flesh, upon which He has engraved His Torah (Eze 26:26-27). It becomes the nature of the righteous to seek after God, to love Him, and to walk in His ways. The righteous are not perfect, they make mistakes and sin. Even David, the man after God’s own heart, sinned grievously. But the righteous always repent and return, that is their defining characteristic. When YHVH utters His voice, they HEAR Him.
Mark 14, The Temple Jesus Builds (Additional studies: Mark Index)
Yeshua did not say that He would destroy the temple, but He did say, that if the temple were to be destroyed, He would raise it up in three days. The Romans destroyed the Temple in 70 AD, but Yeshua destroyed the reason the Temple existed. When He was crucified, the veil in the Temple–a curtain several inches thick, beautifully embroidered, separating the Holy of Holies where the presence of God dwelt, from the The Holy Place–was torn in two from top to bottom by unseen hands. When Yeshua’s blood paid the penalty our sins incurred, holy God no longer had to be kept separate from His people. His holiness would not consume them because of their sins, for their sins had been atoned for once for all.
