This word is Strong’s 3190, yatab, a primitive root meaning to be good, to do well (rightly), to do good. The ancient pictographs are yud + tet + bet:
yud = the closed hand, thus work, throw, worship;
tet = the basket, thus surround, contain, hold, mud;
bet = the house, thus house, household, family, in, within;
The story the ancient pictographs are telling is of work (yud) surrounding, containing, holding (tet) i.e., concerning the house(hold) (bet). The work wherewith one spends his life is ultimately work undertaken for the benefit of one’s house and family. A derivative according to the Ancient Hebrew Lexicon, is something which functions properly. Working for one’s own home and family inspires someone to do the job right, to do their best.

This word is Strong’s H2617 chesed, an abstract concept meaning lovingkindness, mercy, from Strong’s H2616, chacad, a primitive root meaning to be loving, kind. The ancient pictographs are chet + sin + dalet:
chet = the wall, thus outside, divide, half
sin = the thorn, thus grab, hate, protect
dalet = the door, thus enter, move, hang
The story the ancient pictographs are telling is of the wall (chet) of protection (sin) behind which one allows others to shelter when the door (dalet) is opened.
truth
This word is Strong’s H571, emeth, an adverb meaning verily, truly, faithfully, contracted from Strong’s H539 aman, a primitive root meaning to prop up, sustain, support, confirm. The ancient pictographs are aleph + mem + nun:
aleph = the ox head, thus strength, power, leader
mem = the water, thus chaos, mighty, blood
nun = the seed, thus continue, heir, son

With regard to truth (emeth) and discernment of the connection between the story (strength passing through blood to the next generation) and its relationship to the “meaning” of truth, it’s helpful to look closer at the “blood” part.
We know far more now than in ancient times about our blood, even most basically that it is formed in the marrow of our bones. In every blood cell line my body makes, whether red blood cell, subtypes of white blood cells, ie T cells, B cells etc, each cell of that line is the same—all my T cells have been the same (identical in their makeup) throughout my life, whether at one, ten, twenty, fifty years of age —that’s because they ALL originate and are formed from the same marrow—it is UNCHANGING (only a bone marrow transplant from another person can change the genetic makeup of my blood cells!)…
Another aspect of “blood” is its connection to vitality—“lifeblood”…
“Bloodlines”, or lineage, were used to establish legitimacy, identity etc—genealogy traced back through generations to the primary source—ultimately, that which truth is anchored in…
I came across this post nearing a decade later, and don’t see any further posts for “emeth” (within the Hebrew index anyway)… The physician side of me is hard to restrain at times, but the more we know and understand of His creation, the more vibrantly we come to know and see Him and His domain—perhaps that includes this amazing, vibrant Hebrew language He established for His people so long ago. I’m grateful for your gift, discernment and sharing of the Hebrew language—it adds not only greater depth, but truly brings our God’s perspective into our understanding and treatment of His Word.
