U.S. military chaplains are being fired for praying in the name of Jesus? What happened to the First Amendment? Where are the chaplains who are being fired for praying in the name of Allah, or Jehovah, or Buddha, or great-aunt Lucy’s ancestral spirit? This is lunacy. If this is Rumsfeld’s idea, I retract my former praise about him.
Now, I really must get back to Christmas baking, LOL.

12/22 Update: Stars and Stripes newspaper has more on the chaplain (Broken link, active December 22, 2005). I also heard reports that Sean Hannity had a Navy higher up on his radio show yesterday, who disputed many of the chaplain’s facts. So stay tuned … I just checked Hannity’s website for details, and the Navy chaplain is going to be on today, 12/22.

12/22 Update: Former military posting on Free Republic says the problem is very real: “In the Air Force, staff meetings used to be started with a prayer if the Commander so deemed. Catholic, Jewish, and Protestant chaplains rotated the duty. In the aftermath of the Academy complaint by a radical chaplain Captain (who was 54 years old–her name is Capt. Melinda Morton and she went straight to the NY Times with her complaints) the military has gone overboard and has banned Evangelical and Protestant chaplains from praying in Jesus’ name at any public event.”

The Washington Times is the source of story, not the Post. I am following up on this story and trying to find out why the chaplain is in trouble.
