The first occurrence
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: He made the stars also. Gen 1:16
The primitive root
Strong’s H3556 כוכב kowkab, a concrete object from an uncertain etymology; however, according to Gesenius the primitive root is כבב meaning, “to roll up in a ball.” If so, the 3-letter root is kaph + bet + bet.
kaph כ ך = open palm, thus bend, open, allow, tame
bet ב = the house, thus house, household, family, in, within
bet ב = the house, thus house, household, family, in, within
The story: The black goat hair fabric used for the covering (kaph) of the tent (bet) allows some light within (bet), giving the appearance of stars overhead. The story is from the Ancient Hebrew Lexicon.
