Deuteronomy 14:22-29, The fear of YHVH
Additional studies: Deuteronomy Index
This is why the most often repeated commandment in the Bible, is not, Do not make idols or some variation, but Fear not. Do not be afraid. Another way of saying it would be, Fear the right thing. If you fear God, if you place your trust in Him and obey Him out of that trust, then nothing else can terrify you, because you have made God your God, and He is in covenant with you now.
1 Samuel 11 and 12, And the significance of the wheat harvest
Additional studies: 1 and 2 Samuel Index
God sent rain at the wheat harvest (He sent the Holy Spirit at Shavuot or Pentecost) and the people perceived that their wickedness was great, and feared YHVH. Their eyes were opened to their sins, and their hearts were turned, and they feared YHVH. This is the work of the Holy Spirit, who convicts of sin and righteousness, and turns hearts toward Him.
Psalm 142, Structures and Patterns
Additional studies: Psalms Book Five (107-150) Index
The second chiastic structure, which shares elements with the first one, opens with all having forsaken the psalmist, but closes with the righteous surrounding him, as YHVH begins to reverse his situation and work on his behalf. He can find no place of refuge, but realizes YHVH is his refuge and his portion, who will hear him, acknowledge him and deliver him. The central axis is the turning point for him: I have cried unto You, O YHVH!
