ESSENTIAL STUDIES.
Numbers 6, The Law of the Nazirite
Additional studies: Numbers Index
The Teaching Tool of Common Theme shows us that a Nazirite is someone, not of the family of Aaron, who wishes they too can be in YHVH’s presence as the Levites and priests can. They can take the vow of a Nazirite, and dedicate themselves to YHVH, and separate themselves to YHVH just as Aaron and just as the Levites are separated to Him, and they shall be separate for the days of their vow. YHVH receives it as an act of worship, as a consecration to Him, just as Aaron and just as the Levites are consecrated to Him.
1 Samuel 26, David and Abigail
Additional studies: 1 and 2 Samuel Index
Both David and Abigail were in sore straits and in need concerning their spouses, but neither of them acted unjustly or unwisely to bring about a better outcome through their own manipulation. They waited on YHVH, and YHVH delivered them.
Psalm 149, Chiastic Structure
Additional studies: Psalms Book Five (107-150) Index
Are the saints of God called to slay kings, nobles, and peoples with a two-edged sword? I think John Gill has the right sense of it, when he says the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God for the pulling down of strongholds. The two-edged sword we wield is the Word of God. For if we were to execute vengeance in this age, as the Muslims do, then Jesus would not have stopped His disciples from calling down fire and brimstone on the town that rejected Him (Luk 9:51-56). A day for executing vengeance in the traditional sense may well come, but it will be under the direction and command of the returned King Himself, and not up to us. Those who advocate otherwise are not doing so by the direction of the Holy Spirit, but another manner of spirit altogether.
