ESSENTIAL STUDIES.
Jeremiah 11 and 12 (and 26), Background history
Additional studies: Jeremiah Index
In fact, the central axis of these two chapters is the threat of death that is levied against Jeremiah. Tribulation arose for Jeremiah for the Word’s sake, as Jesus explained (Mar 4:17). And this is the universal principle: anyone who desires to stand for the truth of YHVH’s Word will attract tribulation and persecution. It has nothing to do with the person, and everything to do with the Word of YHVH that is coming out of their mouth. The enemy seeks to crush the Word by crushing the messenger who proclaims that Word. The second reality is that the persecution came from the professionals who considered themselves the guardians of YHVH’s truth, and this was the same principle at work with Jesus also. It was the religious leaders who had Him arrested, put Him on trial, and brought Him before the Roman governor.
Psalm 105, Chiastic structure
Additional studies: Psalms Book Four: 90-106 Index
This psalm does not end with a strong paragraph division, and as I looked into it, neither does Psalm 104 that we studied last time. It means that Psalm 104-105-106 (at least) are together teaching a single theme. Psalm 104 dwelt on God as Creator over His creation, and this psalm dwells on the emergence of Israel as a nation. You might say, God, by His supernatural wisdom and ability, created the heavens and the earth, and then, by His supernatural wisdom and abilitiy, He created a people for Himself.
The Book of John Chiastic structure
Additional studies: John Index
These are all quotes, and not John’s commentary. John’s commentary is that Jesus is the Word, who was with God and who was God (Joh 1:1, 14), who was begotten, not made, and through whom all that was made, was made (Joh 1:3). John establishes Jesus’ identity as the Son of God, and as God, without any doubt. The chiastic structure does not invent that identity, but it does throw it into stark relief.
