Isn’t it interesting that the two kings who subjected Judah, were of Egypt, and Babylon? Both Egypt and Babylon are prophetic types for the kingdom of darkness in Scripture. Judah had already bowed her spiritual knee to that kingdom when she discarded YHVH’s ways and filled the land with idolatry and bloodshed. Now she was forced to bow her natural knee as well, as fruit follows seed.
Psalm 108, Patterns
Additional studies: Psalms, Book Five: Psalms 107-150 Index
The psalm is prophetic of the Messianic kingdom, when Israel will be united (Judah and Ephraim together) under the kingship of one king, Messiah Yeshua, and Israel’s enemies will be subdued under His authority. Give us help against trouble, Father, for the help of man is useless. For through God Israel will do valiantly, for He Himself will tread down her enemies! ♥
Hebrews 4, The rest that remains
Additional studies: Hebrews Index
The writer of Hebrews is making the point that the rest established on the seventh day from the foundation of the world, is History that Prophesies of a future rest, which Joshua did not fulfill by bringing Israel into the Promised Land. There remains, therefore, a rest for the people of God to enter. The physical rest prophesies of the spiritual rest we have in Christ (Mat 11:28-30). Now that we have spiritual rest, do we abolish physical rest? No, and there is no passage which tells us they are mutually exclusive. For as long as we have physical bodies living in this physical universe, we continue to need physical rest.
