This chapter was written at a time when Jeconiah was king in his father’s place (Jer 22:24). The reason it seems to also be speaking as if Jehoiakim was still king before his death, was that the first part of the chapter was in the scroll that Jehoiakim burned. After that, God commanded Jeremiah to write the scroll again, with all the words that were on the first scroll (Jer 36:28). When he did, he added the prophecy about Jeconiah, to show the king that what had been prophesied about both his uncle and his father had come to pass, therefore what was prophesied about Jeconiah would also come to pass, unless he repent.

The C pair reveals that idols are the work of men’s hands, whereas heaven and earth are the work of God’s hands. The D pair reveals the fate of those who trust in worthless idols. It is helplessness, being without help in the world, for they are unable to effect help; whereas the fate of those who trust in YHVH, is help: greater and greater increase, and not only for us, but for our children as well. As in the past several psalms, there is no strong division at the conclusion of this psalm. ♥
Hebrews 9, Chiastic structure
Additional studies: Hebrews Index
A second deficiency of the first covenant was the continual sacrifice of the blood of bulls and goats, which could temporarily purify the flesh but which could not purify the heart. Furthermore, these sacrifices were offered in the copy of the dwelling place of God, the tabernacle, made with human hands. In the better covenant, one perfect Sacrifice of the blood of the Son, once for all, purified the heart as well as the flesh. The Son furthermore brought this sacrifice, His own blood, into the eternal dwelling place of God, the tabernacle in the heavenlies, made without human hands.
