Re: “Believed in:” Strong’s H539, aman, “to prop, to stay, to sustain, to support.” Combined, the first two letters (aleph + mem) mean “to bind,” when used as a verb, or “glue,” when used as a concrete noun. When the nun is added, then, the story becomes the bond (aleph + mem) that continues (nun). The Hebrew language defines the abstract concept of belief as ideas or truths that stick with us continually.
Abram believed in YHVH, i.e., he and those in his household were of the few (the only?) who believed that YHVH was the Creator of heaven and earth, the one true God, while the rest of the earth practiced the paganism learned from the Tower of Babel rebellion; and he believed YHVH – he believed His words were true, even if he had yet to see them fulfilled.

The king of Babylon was appointed for them as the instrument of YHVH’s correction, because they would not be corrected any other way, either by Torah or by prophet. Even at this late date, there were prophets (a representative of YHVH’s authority in Israel, with fathers, priests, judges, and kings) who were in adultery with their neighbor’s wives (Jer 29:23)! So of course, repentance had not yet taken place!
And yet, the purpose of the calamity is for correction, not destruction. When we have learned repentance, when we have learned to submit our necks to YHVH and not rebel, His word to us is: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says YHVH, thoughts of peace and not of evil …

The C pair reveals that idols are the work of men’s hands, whereas heaven and earth are the work of God’s hands. The D pair reveals the fate of those who trust in worthless idols. It is helplessness, being without help in the world, for they are unable to effect help; whereas the fate of those who trust in the Lord, is help: greater and greater increase, and not only for us, but for our children as well. As in the past several psalms, there is no strong division at the conclusion of this psalm.
