The center of the structure: “But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of YHVH arose against His people, till there was no remedy. Therefore He brought against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or virgin, on the aged or the weak; He gave them all into his hand,” (2 Chr 36:16-17) inspired the author of Hebrews to write: “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God“ (Heb 10:31). For those who mock, despise, and scoff.

It would be more accurate to say, that faith causes works, rather than faith opposes works. Faith is like the root of the plant underground. It cannot be seen, but it is that root that enables the plant above ground to stand upright and bear fruit. Without the water and minerals the root gathers from the soil, and transfers to the plant, the plant above ground would be nothing and bear nothing.
