New pictures I uploaded this week:
ambrosia salad
buttermilk feather pancakes
guacamole
no bake chocolate drop cookies
For some inexplicable reason, I forgot to take pictures of the roasted red pepper chicken and garlic mashed potatoes that were on the dinner menu for last night. I am a failure as a food blogger. 🙂
But I did take a picture of my failed attempt to make creme fraiche. You see, you are supposed to use just pasteurized cream, not ultra pasteurized cream. I was having trouble finding non ultra pasteurized cream, so I thought, Well, can it make that big of a difference? and tried making it with ultra pasteurized cream. Yes, I can honestly report, it makes a big difference. Turns out ultra pasteurized cream will not set up. Period. So far in my quest to find non ultra pasteurized cream, I have been to:
Publix
Richard’s Whole Foods (small local natural foods grocer)
Whole Foods
Yoder’s Fresh Market (an Amish grocer)
Bulk n Natural Foods (another Amish grocer)
The Granary (small local natural foods grocer)
The only place I haven’t been to, is Sweetbay, the higher priced regular grocery store around here, and Fresh Market, a new Whole Foods type store which has opened on University Parkway. For you non- locals, University Parkway runs through two country clubs and contains fhree or four upscale shopping centers, like they opened out on Harmony in Fort Collins last year. Translation: expensive.
Tomorrow I am going to the farmer’s market in Siesta Village to see what I can find there. Hopefully there will be one dairy farmer selling locally from whom I can procure fresh cream to try creme fraiche again!
