The paragraph divisions:
1a Praise the Lord! {n}
1b Praise the Lord, O my soul!
2 While I live I will praise the Lord; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
3 Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.
4 His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish.
5 Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the Lord his God,
6a Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; {n}
6b Who keeps truth forever,
7 Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The Lord gives freedom to the prisoners.
8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; The Lord raises those who are bowed down; The Lord loves the righteous.
9 The Lord watches over the strangers; He relieves the fatherless and widow; But the way of the wicked He turns upside down.
10a The Lord shall reign forever— Your God, O Zion, to all generations. {n}
10b Praise the Lord!
There is no strong paragraph division at the end of the psalm as is usual. I looked ahead, and there isn’t another strong paragraph division until the end of Psa 150, so Psa 146-150 is proclaiming a single theme: Praise to the Lord!
The reverse parallelism:
1a) Psa 146:1a, Praise the Lord! {n}
1b) Psa 146:1b-2, Praise the Lord, O my soul! I will praise the Lord while I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being;
1c) Psa 146:3-4, Do not put your trust in princes in whom there is no help;
2c) Psa 146-5-9, Happy is he whose help is in the God of Jacob;
1a) Psa 146:5, Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God;
1b) Psa 146:6a, Who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; {n}
2b) Psa 146:6b, Who keeps truth forever;
2a) Psa 146:7-9, Who does good to the vulnerable and oppressed, but thwarts the way of the wicked;
2b) Psa 146:10a, The Lord shall reign forever— Your God, O Zion, to all generations; {n}
2a) Psa 146:10b, Praise the Lord!
