Qashar, “To bind,” Strong’s H7194

The first occurrence.

And it came to pass, whenever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods. Gen 30:41

The primitive root.

Strong’s H7194 קשר qashar, a primitive root meaning, “to bind or to tie together.” The 3-letter root is aleph + resh + kaph.

quph ק = sun on the horizon, thus condense, circle, time
shin ש = two front teeth, thus sharp, press, eat, two, again
resh ר = the head of man, thus head, first, top, beginning, man

The story: To encircle (quph) so as to press tightly against (shin) the man (resh), that is, to tightly bind as with a sash around the waist.
