ESSENTIAL STUDIES.
Isaiah 17 and 18, The Banner Lifted Up
Additional studies: Isaiah Index
Here in Isaiah, the Root of Jesse, who is Messiah Yeshua, is the banner lifted up, gleaming from afar as a signal to the nations to come under the protection of the King. He is the standard to which both Israel (Ephraim, dispersed, that is, Gentiles or Christians) and Judah will repair (Isa 11:12). Judah is already being regathered to her homeland. Can Ephraim be far behind? And when the last of the Gentiles has come in, all Israel will be saved (Rom 11:25-26)!
Psalm 63, Chiastic Structure
Additional studies: Psalms Book Two: 42-72 Index
The king lifts up his hands to bless YHVH in worship, and YHVH lifts up His right hand to uphold him (A pair). The soul of the king shall be satisfied in His search for YHVH, as his soul follows close behind Him (B pair). The king praises God with joy, and rejoices in Him under the shadow of His wings (C pair, and see Psa 91:1). He meditates on God during the night, and what he remembers about Him, what he recounts to himself, is all the ways God has been his help in the past, therefore he takes joy and has confidence in God’s help for his present situation also (central axis). ♥
1 Timothy 6, Godliness with contentment
Additional studies: 1&2 Timothy Index
Then there is true gain, or great gain, which is godliness with contentment. This type of gain does not result in an increase of material goods, but an increase in peace and contentment, a heart free from lusts and the love of money. In this type of gain, true godliness is an end in itself, not a means to anything else.
