Sennacherib came against Samaria, and they were not delivered. He came against Jerusalem and they were delivered. The difference between the two cities, was their trust in YHVH God, and their obedience to His commandments which He had commanded Moses, which flowed out of their trust in Him.
Psalm 77, Chiastic structure
Additional studies: Psalms, Book Three: Psalms 73-89 Index
The Psalmist communed within his heart, trying to find an instance when the Lord forgot to be gracious or shut up His compassion. He realized that there is no such instance–YHVH changes not. So instead of meditating on all his trouble (1C) he began to meditate on the work of YHVH (2C)–His greatness, His glory, and that His promises hold fast. Let us do the same!
1 Thessalonians 3, Temporary afflictions
Additional studies: 1 & 2 Thessalonians Index
But we are living in the world, not being a part of it. The world is at enmity with God, and therefore by extension, at enmity with us. The closer we get to God and to walking in His ways, the more we move ourselves into the crosshairs of this world. If we suffer affliction and tribulation, that is nothing strange or unusual, but common to the household of faith. Though the body may perish, our spirit lives forever in the presence of God. Our temporary afflictions strengthen us to bear an eternal weight of glory. ♥
