When Sennacherib heard the rumor about Tirhakah, he sent a letter to Hezekiah, in essence saying, “Look, don’t let this rumor bolster your strength or encourage you against me, because I am going to take Jerusalem and your God is not going to be able to save you from me.” YHVH’s response to this blasphemy, was to assure Sennacherib that He Himself will put His hook in Sennacherib’s nose and His bridle in his lips, and turn him back by the way which he came (Isa 37:29).
Psalm 78, Wisdom
Additional studies: Psalms, Book Three: Psalms 73-89 Index
Believers, we have nothing to fear of the Law, for Moses and the Prophets did not preach conditional salvation upon its obedience, but just as the Greek Testament, belief in God to trust in His salvation. However, knowing His awesome word, and His awesome works, God’s truth and His power, is an open gateway on the highway of belief and trust in God for salvation. Out of the heart set aright in faithfulness to God (the new birth) comes reverence for and obedience to His word, which is built upon the foundation of His Law (Mat 5:18, 7:24).
1 Thessalonians 4, Knowing the will of God
Additional studies: 1 & 2 Thessalonians Index
I was taught as a young believer that no where in the Bible does God clearly say, “This is My will:” except for in the next chapter, when Paul writes, “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” Blatantly demonstrably false! Not only does Paul expound in many places that it is will of God that we increase in sanctification, followed by examples (as in today’s reading), but Jesus also did not mince words about it. Nor, if anyone reads the Bible for themselves, does Moses, nor do the Psalms, the Proverbs, or the Prophets. ♥
