Gluten restrictions: Soy sauce often has wheat listed on the ingredient label. One gluten-free brand of soy sauce is La Choy. Tamari is also gluten-free.
MSG restrictions: Soy sauce contains MSG, as MSG is a naturally- occurring byproduct of soy fermentation. That is why soy sauce makes food taste so good. MSG, it has been proven, destroys cells in the hypothalamus in the brain, which controls a body’s appetite switch. That is, mammals who eat MSG begin to gain weight until they are grossly obese, because their brain can’t tell the stomach anymore, “Hey! Stop eating! You aren’t hungry!”
There are no soy sauces without MSG. Try instead:
Thai Kitchen fish sauce.
Wild Oats, Whole Foods, and Sunflower Market carry Thai Kitchen products.
The gluten- free La Choy and tamari contain as much MSG as any other soy sauce. Thai Kitchen fish sauce is gluten- and MSG- free.
