The first occurrence
And YHVH God said unto the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon your belly shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life.” Gen 3:14
The primitive root
Strong’s H3212 ילך yalak, a primitive root meaning, “to go, to go out, to get out.” The 3-letter root is yud + lamed + kaph.
yud י = closed hand, thus work, throw, worship
lamed ל = shepherd’s staff, thus teach, yoke, to, bind
kaph כ ך = open palm, thus bend, open, allow, tame
The story: Grasping (yud) the staff (lamed) in the palm (kaph). When someone left home, he took his staff in his palm, to aid in walking.
