Deuteronomy 19, You shall not move the ancient boundary

There is more being said here than do not steal your neighbor’s land. The Law itself is an ancient boundary stone. It has set boundaries for determining truth, of right and wrong, justice and criminal activity, and the right exercise of punishment, not for a power rush, but specifically to prevent the spread of evil in society, and so secure peace and security for the vast majority of the law-abiding population. When you move the ancient boundary stone, you are in danger of committing murder, by allowing evil to grow, by giving hatred an open door to rise up against innocent victims. Blood guiltiness increases in the land, so that the murderer finds refuge.

We have been highlighting ever since Genesis, the grace, mercy, love, and longsuffering of YHVH. But no one should mistake YHVH’s kindness for weakness – His kindness is meant to bring us to repentance and return (Rom 2:4)! If we make our necks stiff and harden our hearts, and refuse to return as Israel refused to return, then one day the longsuffering will come to an end and we will call forth judgment upon ourselves. Let us meet our God on bended knee, in voluntary humility, and resolve to worship Him in the manner He commands in His word, and not what seems good to us out of our own hearts!

And please notice that righteousness and joy are not mutually exclusive characteristics. But because the King has loved righteousness and hated wickedness, He was anointed with the oil of joy above all His companions. Righteousness and joy, like mercy and truth, often appear together in the Scriptures and are sisters; they walk together holding hands. You cannot desire one without desiring the other. ♥
