This section provides immunization against unbelief and idolatry if we will heed it. Love Him first, which is a result of understanding His deep love for us. Then feed our hearts and minds on His Word, for His Word is the daily bread for our souls, keeping us spiritually strong and nourished on truth. Listen to this daily Word, pay heed to it, obey Him, and teach His Word to pass on its truth and culture to the next generation. Then possess our inheritance in the kingdom of God, not shrinking back from giants, for it is YHVH who destroys them before our face!

Because they made gods in their own image, according as it seemed right to them, and not according to the word of YHVH, they also lived their daily life according as it seemed right to them, but not according to YHVH’s righteousness defined in Torah. For repeatedly throughout Amos we see the admonition to forsake oppression as often as the admonition to forsake idols. The parallels to our own modern day are convicting and humbling.

So the Hebrew construction brings out a valuable insight: just as the trouble is magnified, so is His help exceedingly available. It’s help that not only matches the scope of the trouble, but outstrips it. Thus, “Therefore we shall not fear …” ♥
