Sign The Center for Reclaiming America’s Judicial Vacancy Petition! (Broken link, active July 15, 2005)
Why? As you know, Justice O’Connor has resigned from the Supreme Court.
All of us are realizing more and more every day, that with rulings such as Roe v. Wade, constant strike downs of state bans on partial birth abortion (Broken link, active July 15, 2005) and parental notification laws, the court-ordered dehydration death of Terri Schindler Schiavo against the wishes of her family, and the recent eminent domain property ruling and banning of Ten Commandments monuments, that we can work hard to elect wise and godly men and women to the legislative and executive branches, but until judicial abuse of power is reigned in, our hard work will have little lasting impact.
President Bush pledged to nominate Constitutional originalists to the Supreme Court in his campaign for president. That is, those justices who believe in interpreting the Constitution as it was written, and not inventing new powers and new rights where none exist; who believe it is the duty of the justice to judge, not legislate or execute, as those powers were granted to the other branches of government, branches who are responsive to the will of the people.
Among those who know, it is thought that the President will announce his nominee in the next few weeks. But the ultra-liberal groups like MoveOn.org are ramping up the pressure on the White House to nominate a “moderate” to the bench (Broken link, active July 15, 2005). “Moderate” is code for no one in the mode of a Clarence Thomas, Antonin Scalia, or William Rhenquist; “moderate” is code for someone who the Democrats can trust to abuse their position to implement liberal policy that cannot be implemented via the legislative or executive branches because it is so unpopular.
We are talking gay “marriage”, the restriction of religious speech (i.e., biblical speech; Wiccans and Muslims need not worry) as a “hate crime” (as they have done in Australia recently), continued obstruction of state laws protecting the unborn, and a reversal of our freedom to homeschool or of parents to direct their children’s education. Believe me, as soon as they figure out how to make it sound like it is for the good of the children, parental choice in education will go, because we “fundamentalist, right-wing” parents are a big thorn in the side of the NEA’s goal to get our children under their effective control at ever earlier ages.
We can help. We can urge the President to stay the course on his campaign promise. The Center for Reclaiming America is hand delivering a petition to the White House next week urging him to nominate a Constitutional originalist to the bench. They need as many signatures as possible to help offset the pressure (Broken link, active July 15, 2005) groups like MoveOn.org will be applying to the White House. Sign the petition (Broken link, active July 15, 2005), and forward it to your friends, family, church, and homeschooling lists and forums. We need to get the word out. The President has stood strong for us in the face of constant opposition, from liberals here at home, and terrorists and appeasers abroad. Now let us stand strong with him in what the liberals have promised will be the fight of his two terms as president.
Once you sign, please also call the White House and let them know what you think!
- Encourage the President to keep his promise to nominate a justice who will uphold the Constitution.
- Encourage the President to nominate a justice who will uphold the rights of our faith, our families, and the unborn.
