Read Genesis 41 at Bible Gateway.
We have already seen Joseph as a Prophetic Type for Messiah type, with the prevalence of threes flashing like neon lights across his narrative. Today, he’s “raised to new life” after being buried away in the prison house, so there is the Resurrection Life Sign of Messiah as a second witness.
Each time Joseph was made overseer, it was never as the supreme authority but always the second-in-command. This also foreshadows Messiah Yeshua, who reigns in perfect submission under the authority of the Father.
Joseph’s life also prophesies the two comings of Messiah.
- First sojourn in Egypt as a slave, the servant of all.
- Hidden away for a season in the prison house.
- Second sojourn exalted as the ruler over all.
Just like Yeshua:
- First coming as the suffering Servant of all who laid down His life on the cross.
- Hidden season (the time we’re now living in) between the comings.
- Second coming, returning in glory to rule as King of kings.
Why This Matters: God is astonishing, because this is real history—real people used free will to make decisions for good and evil. And yet as it all unfolds, it proclaims the ministry of Messiah in every detail. History becomes Prophesy!
