Exodus 7:8-8:19, Ki Y’daber, “When YHVH speaks”

Why out of all that could be the central axis and the main point of the passage, is this the central axis? Seven days is a full week, and the seventh of those days is a day of rest from the labor we inherited as a result of sin, making Sabbath rest the first teacher of the Gospel of grace in Torah. It’s a length of time representing a complete whole, in which there were no plagues or judgments. The central axis highlights the fact that God is providing a fulfillment of time, after one plague ends, and before the next begins, so that men can reflect on what has just transpired, meditate on its meaning, and come to repentance, and then salvation, as the miracles attest that the “kingdom of God is at hand.”
Job 22, On receiving His word
Additional studies: Job Index
What does it mean to receive His Word? We take it in, and accept it. We believe it is true. We believe it is true and put our trust in it, which is to say, we put our trust in Him who spoke it and proclaimed it a true Word, even when things get difficult as they got for Job. We don’t reject it or cast it away from us, because of momentary affliction which seems to disprove its veracity. Momentary affliction which has the appearance of being reality, which appearance is however deceiving. Spiritual warfare almost entirely consists in discerning between the truth of God’s Word, which is always true, and the falsehood of momentary affliction, a temporary state of deceptive appearances.
Psalm 17, Keep me as the apple of Your eye
Additional studies: Psalms Book One (1-41) Index
The common phrase ‘apple of the eye’ comes into English from the Hebrew Bible. Its meaning refers to something valued above all other things. The Hebrew idiom literally means ‘little man of the eye,’ referring to the tiny reflection of yourself that you can see in another’s eye. If you are the apple of someone’s eye, that someone is focusing on you and closely watching all things concerning you.
