The miraculous works of Moses, Joshua, Elijah, and Elisha were widely recognized in Israel as signs confirming that their words were God’s words. That Yeshua performed these same signs, and greater than the same, testified to Israel that His words were the word of God.

Why are the wicked wicked? Why is evil in their hearts? They do not regard the works of YHVH, nor the operation of His hands. They don’t acknowledge their Creator, therefore they don’t acknowledge His right to ruling authority. They don’t acknowledge His responsibility to explain righteousness and sin for humankind, whose plumb line has been terribly skewed by the fallen nature. Neither do they acknowledge their own responsibility to accept His word and His judgments as true and upright, and their own responsibility to obey them and Him.

Why was God so harsh as to kill Ananias and Sapphira? First of all, God was not harsh! His judgments are always just (Rev 16:7)! I believe it was because, the church at Jerusalem was the first church of which Yeshua is the Head. It is a spiritual principle that the first things belong to God. The firstborn, the tithe, the first part of our day in praise and thanksgiving to Him. Of course, all the Church belongs to God. But God was taking care to keep sin and a defiled heart from entering His first church and establishing a foothold. The result of their deaths, was that fear fell upon all. Both of the Church – so that no one dreamed of treating God so flippantly again, or Peter His servant — and of the world. The world held the Church in esteem after this, and kept themselves apart from them (vs. 13).
