The dictionaries and lexicons say pages of things about kohen. But when you boil it all down, the priesthood enables the people to worship YHVH their God, who is their root and firm foundation. And today’s central axis reveals that this office, this service, is as valuable as land and the material blessings of this life that land represents. YHVH revealed this same thing to Abraham:
After these things the word of YHVH came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” Gen 15:1

So we are looking at a time of pilgrimage to Jerusalem, when the throne of the house of David is once more established in Jerusalem for judgment, and the twelve tribes of Israel are once more united in the worship of YHVH God. Because of this realization, it is interesting that vs. 2 declares that our feet are already within the gates of Jerusalem–for in fact, if we are YHVH’s, then our citizenship is with the New Jerusalem already! ♥
