That God would be Israel’s God, and Israel His people, were the terms of the covenant made with Israel at Mt. Sinai, under Moses (Exo 19:3-6). The statutes and judgments that Moses received, are the only statutes and judgments that Israel ever received. These are the statutes and judgments that Ezekiel is prophesying about—the statutes and judgments that the men of Judah transgressed without repentance, so that God departed from them. That He departed from them was the greatest calamity. The destruction of the city and the temple followed a few years after, a natural expression of a spiritual reality. But even after all this, I love how YHVH never leaves His people without hope:
“I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God.” Eze 11:19-20

We are looking at a time of pilgrimage to Jerusalem, when the throne of the house of David is once more established in Jerusalem for judgment, and the twelve tribes of Israel are once more united in the worship of YHVH God. Because of this realization, isn’t it interesting that vs. 2 declares that our feet are already within the gates of Jerusalem—for in fact, if we are YHVH’s, then our citizenship is with the New Jerusalem already! ♥

The B pair: That which establishes the heart, is not food. This is not an exhortation to dismiss the dietary laws (they benefit the body), but rather, do not let pursuit of food be the desire or goal of the heart, as it is with some people today (either those whose god is their belly, or those who, even though with good intentions, make correct eating the focus of their life).
But let the fruit coming out of our lips, not coming into our lips, help establish our heart by grace: continual praise and thanksgiving to God. Anyone who struggles with a weak heart, discouragement, wavering or doubting, running back and forth between doctrines and unable to be settled, would benefit from establishing their heart by grace, in continual praise and thanksgiving to God. I think those who struggle with such things will find, upon examination, that the fruit of the lips of genuine praise and thanksgiving to God, is a missing or diminished element.
