Jeremiah 13, The point of no return

There is a change in Jeremiah’s prophecies, which becomes apparent in today’s reading. Up until now, God has been exhorting Judah to repent of her sins and return to Him to avert the disaster and judgment which would come upon Judah and Jerusalem if they did not. Beginning with today’s reading, however, there is no more talk of repentance and return — only the description of the judgment which is coming.

Finally we have a strong paragraph division! Psalm 104, 105, and 106 are all together teaching a single theme, since we have not had a strong division since the conclusion of Psalm 103. Psalm 104 recounted YHVH’s awesome works as Creator and Ruler of the universe; Psalm 105 recounted YHVH’s awesome works in creating a people for Himself in Israel, and Psalm 106 is recounting YHVH’s awesome works and His mercy in keeping and maintaining that people, in saving them and bringing them back to Himself time and again, despite the best efforts of flesh, sin, worldliness, evil influence and the like to draw them away from Him permanently. All who are His, He is able to restore! Praise God! ♥

Likewise, the writer clarified the divine nature of Messiah Yeshua. Not only did he establish that Messiah Yeshua was the Son of God (vs. 5), but God Himself (vs. 6-12). I believe that God is a single, unified Being (Deu 6:4) but for the purpose of expressing Himself, explaining Himself, and interacting as Himself with this fallen world, He presents Himself in three manifestations as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Mat 28:19).
