ESSENTIAL STUDIES.
Jeremiah 15 and 16, Chiastic structure
Additional studies: Jeremiah Index
And yet in the midst of the evil doing of the wicked, was Jeremiah, who found YHVH’s word, and ate it, and it became to him joy and the rejoicing of his heart, for he was called by YHVH’s name. He suffered rebuke and cursing from the men who hated hearing YHVH’s word from his mouth. But YHVH promised to save and deliver him through the destruction that was coming (Jer 15:21), and that is what happened. The tables were turned. The men who cursed, who mocked and could not bear the word of YHVH were taken away to the destruction of death, the sword, famine, and captivity, as we shall see, while Jeremiah was saved and delivered. This is History that Prophesies!
Psalm 107, Patterns
Additional studies: Psalms Book Five: 107-150 Index
The thread runs through the psalm that in one way or another, man brings trouble upon himself, when he ignores YHVH and His wisdom, which He has given to the sons of men so that they might live a blessed life on this side of heaven (Deu 28). After all, the world that YHVH created for man was a perfect garden of no lack, no pain, and no death, dwelling with God Himself (Gen 1-2). But because man ignored YHVH and His wisdom, what we have now as a result, is lack, pain, and death (Gen 3). However, in spite of all that, God has poured out His mercy to man. He has revealed His ways to him in Torah, which will open the doors of blessing over his head instead of the doors of cursing, privation, and trouble. And then, even when our trouble is of our own making, when we cry out to Him in the midst of it, He delivers us.
Hebrews 2, To make propitiation
Additional studies: Hebrews Index
To make propitiation is Strong’s G2433, ἱλάσκομαι hilaskomai, “to conciliate.” This word was used to translate the Hebrew נהם nacham, Strong’s H5162; “to give comfort, to have sorrow.” The parable: to continue (nun) outside (chet), that is, to rest at pasture, as the shepherd took his flocks outside their enclosure for the season, to find good pasture. The addition of the mem brings to mind:
YHVH is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. Psa 23:1-2
Thus the parable: To rest in green pastures (nun + chet) and still waters (mem). Because Yeshua has reconciled us to God (made propitiation) as our faithful High Priest, we are now the sheep of His pasture, lying down in green meadows beside still waters, with nothing lacking that we could need.
