ESSENTIAL STUDIES.
Genesis 6:9-9:17, God preserves the righteous but destroys the wicked
Additional studies: Genesis Index
These four paragraphs together (Gen 6:9-9:17) make the next Strong Theme of Genesis, with the topic, God preserves the righteous but destroys the wicked. But also I just want to point out that one of Scripture’s teaching tools is History that Prophesies; and besides the prophesy of Messiah Yeshua as the ark of our salvation, this history is prophesying to us that the day is coming when God will judge the wicked. When that day comes, He will preserve the righteous through it. We of all people have no reason to fear for the future!
Jeremiah 17 and 18, Chiastic structure
Additional studies: Jeremiah Index
The lost sheep who were scattered to the ends of the earth, about whom Jeremiah prophesied! And He called His disciples to go fish for them. But even the Canaanite woman received blessing from Israel’s Messiah. And in the 2C pair, the Gentiles shall come from the ends of the earth, seeking YHVH, to whom He will show His power and His might – just as the Canaanite woman was shown.
The lost sheep of the house of Israel, in fact, became so scattered among the Gentiles (see the studies on the book of Hosea) that by the time they return to the land of their fathers, they are indistinguishable from Gentiles – just like me and you! We have actually been grafted in to the cultivated olive tree of Israel, with one root – Messiah Yeshua!
Psalm 108, Patterns
Additional studies: Psalms Book Five: 107-150 Index
So with the mention of these three tribes, the whole of Israel is included on both sides of the Jordan. The only time these tribes were united into a single kingdom was during the reigns of David and Solomon, both types of Messiah. Likewise the three enemies Moab, Edom, and Philistia represent the traditional enemies of Israel. The only time these three enemies were in subjection to Israel was also during the reigns of David and Solomon.
So the psalm, I believe, is prophetic in nature of the Messianic kingdom, when Israel will be united under the kingship of one king, Messiah Yeshua, and Israel’s enemies will be subdued under His authority. Give us help from trouble, Father, for the help of man is useless (as Israel is finding out with her current troubles). For through God Israel will do valiantly, for He Himself will tread down her enemies!
