I know the received wisdom is to store up money, food, and other necessities in case everything goes to hell in a handbasket. Well, I don’t want to discourage anyone from saving up for a rainy day. That is wisdom! But I just can’t help but think that no matter how much someone manages to save up, will it be enough to see them through the crisis that may or may not be coming? At some point the supplies will run out. He who saved up much will maybe last longer than he who saved up little. But then what? Both he who saved up much and he who saved up little will need to trust in God to meet their needs. At some point, the arm of flesh will fail. And then the God who supplied manna from heaven for His beloved will be the only One who can meet our needs according to His riches in glory! And the exciting thing is, He is able and willing to do so!
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Mat 6:19-21
Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. And He said to them, “Take nothing for the journey, neither staffs nor bag nor bread nor money; and do not have two tunics apiece. Whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. And whoever will not receive you, when you go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere. Luke 9:1-6
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Phil 4:19
